Mills & Boon veterans, gather round for some exciting news! Jane Holland, daughter of renowned author Charlotte Lamb, has followed in her mother’s footsteps into the world of Mills & Boon. Jane has signed on to write two Modern romances with us, and we couldn’t be more excited!

To ramp up the excitement, we are going to pay tribute to the iconic M&B author Charlotte Lamb and give you an introduction to what our Modern Romance series looks like today.

Sheila Holland or Charlotte Lamb as she was known to many adoring fans brought the heat to Mills & Boon Modern from when she was first published with us in 1973. Lamb wrote for a further 50 publishers, but her 115 novels with Mills & Boon sold over, an astounding, 100 million copies (The Guardian).

Lamb became a household name, with the likes of Rachael Stewart calling her one of ‘the greats’, alongside Sara Craven, Miranda Lee, and Emma Darcy.

Charlotte was drawn towards the darker side of human nature and pioneered the trend of stories that went ‘beyond the bedroom door’. These stories, full of sexual prowess, reflected the growing open exploration of sexuality in the 70s (The Guardian).

Not only that, but Lamb paved the way in creating the image of strong, independent heroines – who definitely don’t need saving.
