We’re at the finish line for #24HoursInMandB and we’ve seen some great entries! As we wrap up and head into the voting round for the best first chapter next week, newbie Medical author Robin Gianna has dropped by to tell us how a fast track like #24HoursInMandB lead to her dream job – writing from Mills & Boon Medical Romance!
Over to Robin…
Can I say how much I love being a Harlequin Mills & Boon Medical Romance author? And I have the Fast Track submission process to thank for my new dream job!
I’d been learning the craft of fiction writing and had been submitting for some time when, in 2012, I heard about the Fast Track submission for Medical Romance. It sounded like fun! While I’m not personally in medicine, I do have a number of friends and family who are, and figured I could bother them with questions. With the editors requiring just one chapter and a synopsis, I wouldn’t have to spend a massive amount of time on it, either. Yet there was potential for feedback from an editor. And, of course, the possibility they might actually like my work! ๐ How could I go wrong?
I pondered what I’d like to write about, asked endless questions of my friends and family with medical careers, submitted the chapter, and was pleased when I was asked for more. Then even happier when a full manuscript was requested! I enjoyed doing the necessary research, worked hard on finishing the story, and submitted it at the end of that year.
Then I got THE CALL. Harlequin Mills & Boon wanted to offer me a contract! Needless to say, I was over the moon! Since then, it’s been a whirlwind of excitement, with my second book coming out this April. My editor has been a dream to work with, and I feel so blessed that I’m now a published author with the leader in romance fiction.
Any writer wanting to get where I’ve been lucky enough to land should definitely enter a chapter of their work in 24 Hours in M&B. There is absolutely nothing to lose, and so much to gain. Best of luck to all of you who take advantage of this opportunity!
