MOTY2016 Up Close & Personal: Meet James

With the votes coming in thick and fast, we’re catching up with each of our Hot 15 for a one-to-one chat. We want to know, and we’re sure you do too, what really makes them heroes worthy of being our Valentine’s Day cover star. Today – meet James. If you like what you read, don’t forget to place your votes on our Facebook page.

What was your motivation for entering this competition?

I am always looking to find new experiences and try new things and thought this would be an ideal opportunity to meet like-minded people.

What’s your definition of a modern day hero?

I think that the typical view of a hero is somebody who puts themselves at risk and willing to lay down their life for others, but in my experiences a true modern day hero is someone who has the ability and drive to make the small actions count. It’s the day to day acts of kindness that make the difference.

What’s the most heroic thing you’ve ever done?

Due to the nature of my job it wouldn’t be fair to pick just one, however, there have been occasions where just making the time to listen to someone have been as life changing as the physical acts of heroism and that’s the important thing to remember.

How would your friends describe you in less than ten words?

Outgoing, lively, humorous, fun-loving, spontaneous, adventurous, caring, thoughtful, kind and compassionate.

What’s your idea of a perfect date?

Good food and even better company!

When was the last time you cried?

Hard to pin point a time, usually if I’m crying it’s through laughter, I’m fortunate to be surrounded by fun-loving people.

What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for someone?

When it comes to romance I’m not an over the top kind of guy, little and often is the key to keeping romance alive!

Tell us a secret – something we’d never guess about you.

At the age of 3 I was fluent in speaking Norwegian.

What’s your biggest fear?

Not making it into the top 3 of Man of The Year 2016 – please vote for me!

Do you believe in destiny? Tell us why, or why not.

No – you are responsible for your own destiny. Your destiny is definitely defined through your own hard work, commitment and dedication. What you put in is what you get out.

If you could change the world one step at a time, where would you start?

I think if I was given the opportunity to change the world one step at the time it would be through positivity and humour. No matter how bad a situation if you’re prepared to look hard enough you will find a positive. If I could spread the optimism there’s no doubt the world would be a better place.

If someone made a movie of your life, who would play you and why?

It would have to be ‘Dominic Purcell’ – his action movies somewhat represent my 100 mph pace of life, for me no two days are ever the same! We both also share a strong connection with Norway.
