Get to know Mills & Boon!

Publishing can be a bit of mystery at times. Sometimes even our authors only get to know a few of the names and faces that work behind the scenes! While we hope we make things look easy and that everything happens seamlessly (!), there are a lot of fabulous and talented people involved in getting our books out into the world and we thought you might like to meet them.

We’ve already met KatieJulia and Kate, and now we head to our sales time to meet the wonderful Celia

Hi Celia! We’ll start of easy. Can you tell what your job is and you got it?

I am the Sales Executive for Mills & Boon which I came to in a rather roundabout way. I started in theatre design then moved into events management before finally deciding I was going to follow my passion and get into publishing. I applied for the HarperCollins graduate scheme and ended up a very happy member of the Mills & Boon family.

And we’re very happy to have you! What do you like best about your role?

Undoubtedly the best thing about working in publishing is the fact that we are literally surrounded by books. Apart from that, I love the team and the fact that there are always Percy Pigs in the office.

What’s the best thing about working with romance books?

Escapism! There’s nothing better for cheering up a rainy commute than diving into a modern day fairy-tale. The only drawback are the unrealistic expectations I now have for my own life – still waiting for that billionaire to show up.

What are you reading at the moment?

I am reading Jilly Cooper’s Mount. I am such a huge Jilly fan – I pre-ordered it the moment I heard it was coming out.

(This was a common occurence in the Mills & Boon Office). Finally, share five things about you!

  1. I have an unhealthy obsession with the Gilmore Girls
  2. I love Christmas so much I start counting down the sleeps in June
  3. I can play the French Horn
  4. I weirdly enjoy cross country running and voluntarily go orienteering on weekends
  5. I once shared a bottle of wine with Ian McKellen in what is now Taylor Swift’s New York apartment (it’s a great story)

Thank you Celia for taking the time to chat with us! You can follow her on Twitter  which she promises she’s getting better at. Have any questions or comments? Let us know in the comments below or on our social media pages! Remember to check back soon as we shine a spotlight on another member of the team.
