Lost in Romance #19 – The Allure of a Man in Uniform…

I know I’m not the only one whose heart races just a little bit faster when the office fire alarms start ringing. Panic kicks in, and momentarily it becomes very difficult to remember where the door is…exactly where it always is. Five minutes later, after discovering that someone burnt the toast, the adrenaline surging like electricity round our veins turns to a very different kind of emotion…a feverish anticipation. And when the brigade of burly firefighters turns up, the only fires needing quenching are our burning hearts.

But just what is the allure of these uniformed men? It can’t just be the clothing – because no one could call a bearskin or bobby’s helmet the most flattering pieces of kit. Yet something about these unbecoming outfits manages to set our hearts all aflutter! Perhaps it’s the fact that a uniform acts as a visual marker of courage and bravery – the knowledge that these men (and women, of course) are willing to represent their country and put their lives on the line for utter strangers, like you and I.

Modern day knights, these men embody the chivalric values and their uniform acts as their shining armour. Throughout history our hearts have been stolen by these dashing heroes, and if the uniform-based dating sites appearing all over the internet are anything to go by, then our love for a serviceman is certainly set to continue. Army, Navy, pilot or police, sportsman, or even royalty – these men practically ooze masculinity and power, they really are a cut above your average butcher, baker or candlestick maker. And I’m just saying, there’s got to be a reason that the most successful strippers start off in a particular attire…

So, if you can’t resist a sizzling military man, look out for Pregnant with the Soldier’s Son by Amy Ruttan (Medical, July 2014). Whilst celebrating her promotion, the last thing strait-laced orthopaedic surgeon Ingrid Walton expects is to be seduced by mysterious dashing soldier and army medic Clint Allen. Especially when there are consequences to their passionate night! Seven months later Ingrid comes face to face with the father of her unborn baby…but Clint has changed – his last tour of duty has left emotional scars. Can sharing their baby, their work and an undeniable chemistry give them a chance to heal their pasts and enjoy the future…together?

Or if the police force tickles your fancy, try Her Irresistible Protector by Michelle Douglas (Cherish, July 2014). When Officer Mitchell King – Tash Buckley’s ex and the only guy she’s ever loved – arrives on her doorstep, claiming she needs his protective custody, Tash is more concerned by the heart-fluttering effect he still has on her. Confined to Mitchell’s beachside cabin, Tash finds it increasingly difficult to resist her delicious protector…

Here at Paradise Heights the fire alarms have set our pulses quivering twice this week…and it’s sparked a heated debate over our favourite men in uniforms. Of course, there may be bias afloat here – one of us is even married to a detective! – but the truth is, everyone dreams of a real-life hero! So do tell us, who’s your fantasy hero in uniform…?
