Meet Mills & Boon DARE author Lisa Childs

Our hot new series Mills and Boon Dare has launched and is out in the wild for you to enjoy! We caught up with Legal Seduction author Lisa Childs to find out more about her new book…

Legal Seduction is a hot read!  Have you always written sexy storylines, or was this your first?

Of the nearly seventy books I’ve written, there have been some other hot ones, but Legal Seduction might be the hottest yet!

What inspired you to write Legal Seduction?

I’ve had the idea in my head for a while to write a series about lawyers who hadn’t started out on the right side of the law. I wanted them to be sexy alpha males who’ve fought their way to the top, and that’s what the lawyers of Street Legal (the law practice in the book) have done.

How do you feel about being one of the first authors to write for Mills & Boon’s new series, Dare?

I am so honored and excited to be included on the launch of this sexy new series.

Your book has a lead female character who is a lingerie designer. Do you consider yourself a feminist?

That character, Bette Monroe, designs the lingerie for herself – for her pleasure. She’s tough and independent, and I like to think of myself that way as well.  So yes, I guess I am a feminist.  More importantly, I am very proud that I raised two young women who are also very strong and independent.

Why did you choose New York City as the setting of your book?

I chose to set the Legal Lovers series in New York City because it’s my favorite place to visit. The city has such an energy to it that it’s like a living, breathing character all its own.

Do you envisage any celebrities when dreaming up your characters?

I totally based the main character, Simon Kramer, on Simon Baker from the Mentalist.  Both Simons are super sexy and former con artists.

Do you read in the same genre you write?

I love romance novels.  Just as I write for different sub-genres of romance, I also read all sub-genres of them.  Because of my deadlines, I do prefer shorter, hotter books like these Dare books.  I can’t wait to read all the books in this new line.

What are your top three books of all time?

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a favorite that I’ve re-read many times.  I like funny books too so anything by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and of course, Fast Women, by Jennifer Crusie.  I have several other favorites – too many to name…

What advice would you give to someone who wants to write but is too scared to start?

Anyone who really wants to write needs to put her fears aside and just write. Anything. Don’t edit it to death. Don’t agonize over every word or line. Just write. You’ll be surprised what comes out if you give yourself the freedom to make mistakes. You can always edit it later. But, and this has been said before, you can’t edit a blank page.

What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?

Since Mills and Boon Dare is a brand new series, my biggest challenge in writing this book was knowing if I was writing too hot or not hot enough. So of course, I erred on the side of too hot!

And finally, when can we expect another book from you? We loved this one!

I’m so glad you enjoyed Legal Seduction. The next book in the Legal Lovers series, Legal Attraction, will be out in May.  It’s Ronan and Muriel’s story and is super hot and exciting!
